What is a Static IP?
A static IP address never changes.
A dynamic IP can change periodically.
For many businesses, this distinction doesn’t matter — until it does.
When You Need a Static IP
You’ll likely need one if you:
- Host a server
- Run CCTV with remote access
- Use site-to-site VPNs
- Have VoIP systems requiring IP whitelisting
- Run remote desktop gateways
When You Probably Don’t
If you:
- Only browse and use SaaS platforms
- Don’t host services
- Don’t require inbound connectivity
A static IP may not be necessary.
Is It Expensive?
Not usually. Static IPs are commonly an inexpensive add-on — but they should be provisioned correctly.
